A perfect fit for snare drums and toms
Snare drums and toms are the instruments the t.bone CD 55 was designed for. As it is a clip-on microphone that connects to the drum rim, you can do away with annoying mic stands around the drum set. With a frequency range from 50 Hz to 12 kHz, the t.bone CD 55 captures everything the drum sound needs in the mix, from a solid bottom end to piercing attacks. The CD 55’s head is small enough to not get in the way when playing, but big enough to house the standard- sized moving coil capsule. No need for phantom power: Just plug in an XLR cable and you’re ready to go.
From delicate to thunderous
The capsule’s cardioid pattern leans a bit toward a wide cardioid. Hence it has a bigger sweet spot when positioning, but still cancels out a substantial amount of sound approaching it from the rear, like cymbals and hi-hat. With a field sensitivity of 2.3 mV/Pa, the t.bone CD 55 has an output strong enough for any preamp. Its noise level is 14.6 dB(A) and the maximum sound pressure level is 140 dB (1% THD+N). This means that the microphone is just as good at picking up delicate drum rolls as it is for thunderous strokes.
Should we have named the CD 55 “CC 55”?
“CC” could stand for “clever clamp” – and that’d be nailing it: The clamp actually is very cleverly constructed. The t.bone SRM 1 (which is also available separately) clips to all standard drum rims and gets screwed on to hold tight. Because the clamp is slightly curved, the microphone can be positioned on a carriage, allowing different angles and distances in order to find that perfect miking spot. So whether you want to mike a drumset in the recording studio, on stage or in your rehearsal room, a handful of t.bone CD 55s are a professional solution that doesn’t set you back too much.
