the t.bone BD 200

Set the balance between attack and “oomph” by simply tilting the BD 200 towards or away from the spot where the beater hits the drum head. And because a supercardioid has an extended proximity effect, you will get lots of bass and sub-bass! There is a broad, but soft dip in the mids, where the bass drum’s annoying resonances are. The BD 200 gives you a signal you might even not want to eq!

A microphone for the bass drum – and everything else that's loud

the t.bone BD 200

The t.bone BD 200 was designed with the bass drum in mind. Be it small or big, inside or in front of the drum, live or in a recording studio. The microphone’s features, though, allow this t.bone to be used on a wide variety of other instruments. Higher and lower sounding brass instruments will love the BD 200, and so will guitar and bass amplifiers. And this t.bone microphone might just be the perfect fit for loud percussion like congas – and even rock vocalists! With a maximum sound pressure level of way beyond 155 dB SPL, you’re always on the safe side regarding distortion.

Made for high volumes doesn't mean it's noisy

the t.bone BD 200

Just because it specialises in loud instruments, the mic isn’t noisy itself: 16.1 dB(A). The t.bone connects to any preamp/mixer via XLR cable. Since it’s a passive moving coil capsule design, there’s no need for phantom power. An impedance of 400 ohms and a sensitivity of 1.8 mV/Pa are respectable numbers for a professional microphone. The microphone is very functional with its built-in pivotable mount. While the BD 200 is surprisingly inexpensive, the body and basket are made of sturdy metal. Nonetheless, its low weight of 265 grams won’t weigh down your microphone boom arm when the mic is placed inside the bass drum.
