Shorten the distance with our professional shotgun microphone

the t.bone EM 9900

With the t.bone EM 9900, you have the perfect microphone for recording from way outside the frame. Place it on a stand with the included clamp or use it on a boom when the sound source (in most cases: actors) is moving. In order not to pick up too much reverberation, reflections and surrounding noise, the directivity of the EM 9900 is even narrower than a hyper-cardioid, it is “lobar”.

No problem with mobile gear

the t.bone EM 9900

The lightweight microphone is so long because it uses interference tubes to achieve its narrow polar pattern. The condenser capsule sits at the grip end of the microphone body. As a condenser microphone, it is of course phantom powered, but film crews and users of mobile equipment will be delighted to hear it accepts voltages between 9 and 52 volts, not just 48. The output is a standard XLR connector. With 260 ohms impedance, a field sensitivity of 20.8 mV/Pa and a sensationally low noise level of 6.6 dB(A), even battery powered preamps, recorders and cameras will have no trouble operating this mike. The 1.8 mA current draw saves battery life!

An extra you usually have to pay for

the t.bone EM 9900

A linear frequency response is really hard to achieve for a shotgun style microphone. The t.bone EM 9900 not only covers the range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz completely, but without significant deviations. And given the fact the lobar pattern is much, much narrower than a cardioid, colourisation of off-axis sound is really low. In case you need to deal with troublesome bass frequencies, a 12dB/oct low cut filter at 180 Hz reduces them quite drastically. The included windscreen comes in handy not just for outdoor use: “Wind” also occurs when moving the microphone around, e.g. on a boom. Yet another extra you normally have to buy separately.
