Acoustic Guitar Microphones

This category contains Microphones for Acoustic Guitars. The most common used microphones for acoustic guitars (both steel- and nylon strings) are small diaphragm condenser microphones. Small diaphragm condensers are the preferred choices for any sources that produce fast attacks and/or delicate harmonic structures. Small diaphragm mics are designed for transparent sound and minimal coloration and, because of their consistent pick-up patterns, are ideal for stereo miking and large sound sources. The most important advantage of small diaphragms over large diaphragms is that their pick-up patterns are more consistent. The most common directional pattern is cardioid (unidirectional). Sources in front of the microphone (on axis) are picked up louder than sources placed to the sides of the microphone (off axis). Sources at the back of the microphone are suppressed quite effectively. Some small diaphragm microphones allow you to change the directional pattern by exchanging capsule heads. Condenser microphones also require a power source, provided via phantom power or from a small battery.
