Microphones for Saxophone

This category contains microphones for saxophone. A wide range of dynamic and condenser microphones are suitable for saxophone. Use a dynamic mic for a live saxophone performance. This mic allows a sound engineer to raise the volume much higher when mixing the sound. In addition, a dynamic mic can handle a much higher sound pressure level (SPL). Saxophones are notably loud and exhibit a very wide dynamic range, particularly in their lower registers. Large-diaphragm condenser mics, ribbon microphones and PZM boundary microphones are all very capable choices for recording saxophone. Condenser microphones require a power source, provided via phantom power or from a small battery. For live use cardioid condenser instrumental microphone that clamps onto the bell of wind instruments are recommended if applicable. The integrated gooseneck and ratcheting swivel joint allows the microphone to be easily positioned and secured in place, and an isolation shock-mount reduces the transmission of instrument 'key noise' and other mechanical noise. Standard cardioid pattern is the most common pickup pattern.
