High-class look and sound – but reasonably priced

the t.bone RB 500

The t.bone RB 500 is an equally classy ribbon mic, but at a stunningly low price. The good news is: Despite the low cost, you won’t have to compromise on technical performance or sound character. The RB 500 is a fully professional studio microphone, capable of all jobs you would use those vintage or luxury ribbon microphones for.

Vocals, drums, amps… you name it

the t.bone RB 500

The t.bone RB 500 is a “big ribbon” microphone, with a 5 cm (2”) corrugated aluminium ribbon sitting in a magnetic field created by strong neodymium magnets. Like most ribbon microphones, it tends to roll off gently towards the treble range, imparting a warm, round and deep character to any sound source. The RB 500 can be used for vocals, guitars, woodwinds, guitar cabinets and even drum sets – its maximum sound pressure level is an astonishing 141 dB! The inherent polar pattern of a ribbon microphone is the figure-of-eight. This bi-directional pattern allows for positioning sources in the front and rear lobes, while everything on the sides virtually disappears!

Protection all over

the t.bone RB 500

The ribbon is well-protected behind two layers of metal mesh, while the body and bracket are made of metal. The metal body helps shield the premium-quality transformer, which increases the ribbon motor’s output to 1.3 mV/Pa and contributes greatly to the sound character of the microphone. As a classic passive design, the t.bone RB 500 does not require phantom power from the microphone preamp. The microphone ships with a padded protective bag, which is handy for storage and transport, but can also be used to protect the RB 500 in its miking position when it’s temporarily not in use.
